Commentary |

1
I am the true vine, and my Father is the
husbandman.
|
Verse 1 Husbandman
means farmer! Jesus knows it’s God who works the miracles!
|
|
2
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he
taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it,
that it may bring forth more fruit.
|
Verse 2 Your whole world
stems from your ideas! Let your old ideas be purged
(cut off) so that new ideas can grow and bear more "fruit!"
God is giving you a brand new "thought system!" Yea! |
|
3
Now ye are clean through the word which I
have spoken unto you.
|
Verse 3 Your mind has
been cleaned of old thinking! You have already been given 14
chapters of The Answer! Listen!
|
|
4
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more
can ye, except ye abide in me.
|
Verse 4 Abide
means to remain or stay! Stick
with Jesus – He’s your man!
|
|
5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that
abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing.
|
Verse 5 You come to God
through Jesus! It’s the fast track to heaven!
Without Jesus you can do nothing!!!
|
|
6
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth
as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them
into the fire, and they are burned. |
Verse 6 Your joining
with God is all there is! Don’t kid yourself – you know the world
is hell, and you are burning in it! Have a look around!
|
|
7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in
you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
|
Verse 7 You can’t do it
by yourself – you already tried, and look where it got you!
Ask Jesus to do it for you!
|
|
8
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear
much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. |
Verse 8 As you remember
to ask Jesus for help, then God is remembered also! Hey – that
makes you a disciple!
|
|
9
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved
you: continue ye in my love. |
Verse 9 In Truth
there is only love and you are that!
"Whom God has joined, no man can put asunder!"
|
|
10
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide
in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and
abide in his love.
|
Verse 10 Yep! "Love one
another as I have loved you!" You can’t love what you don’t
appreciate! In fact, Love is the way you walk in gratitude!
|
|
11
These things have I spoken unto you, that my
joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
|
Verse 11 Wow! This is a promise from Jesus
to you – now! The joy He’s speaking of will "knock your socks
off!"
|
|
12
This is my commandment, That ye love one
another, as I have loved you.
|
Verse 12 Do it now! This
means you! How else are you going to find the Peace of God?
Do not let the importance of this slip past you! It is the
only way! |
|
13
Greater love hath no man than this, that a
man lay down his life for his friends. |
Verse 13 This is not
about dying! It’s you giving up your humanness
and deciding to be as God created you!
|
|
14
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I
command you.
|
Verse 14 Command
means require! The power to decide for God is still yours!
You rest in God!
|
|
15
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the
servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you
friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made
known unto you.
|
Verse 15 What a friend we
have in Jesus! There are no secrets in God! Nothing stands between
you and the truth! You aren’t different than Jesus – tell Him your
troubles! Use Him as your guide and comforter!
|
|
16
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen
you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of
the Father in my name, he may give it you.
|
Verse 16 You didn’t
choose Jesus – He chose you! And He has ordained you –
chosen you to teach as he teaches! Whatever you ask of God in
Jesus’ name, He will give you. God only gives. Ask
Him!
|
|
17
These things I command you, that ye love one
another.
|
Verse 17 This is your
assignment as a Teacher of God:
Love one another!
|
18
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated
me before it hated you.
|
Verse 18 Are you
misunderstood? Well, don’t complain! Jesus is still hated by the
world! How often do you hear a "Thank you, Jesus?"
|
|
19
If ye were of the world, the world would
love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have
chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. |
Verse 19 Following Jesus
will not make you popular here! This world does not
understand love’s meaning! But Jesus has chosen you out of the
world! Now is the moment of your "awakening!" Remember, the
world you see holds nothing that will make you happy!
|
|
20
Remember the word that I said unto you, The
servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me,
they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they
will keep yours also.
|
Verse 20 Jesus was
persecuted for telling the truth, and you will be, too! Some won’t
hear you, but those who do will join you and help spread
the good news! Teach only love for that is what you are!!
|
|
21
But all these things will they do unto you
for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. |
Verse 21 Jesus knows that
the world will treat you badly and be cruel to you in His name!
Why? The "world" doesn’t know God! Now you be the "light!" |
|
22
If I had not come and spoken unto them, they
had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
|
Verse 22 Sin, the idea of
being separate from God, was okay until Jesus came along!
He says separation is impossible! Now that He’s told you the
truth, there’s no place to hide – you’ve been found! |
|
23
He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
|
Verse 23 Jesus is no fool
– He knows what’s really going on! The Father and the Son are One!
|
|
24
If I had not done among them the works which
none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both
seen and hated both me and my Father. |
Verse 24 You don’t know
what you’re doing until it’s pointed out to you – right?
Now that Jesus has given you the New Commandment, there’s
no excuse for hating! Don’t you want to stop it?
|
|
25
But this cometh to pass, that the word might
be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a
cause.
|
Verse 25 Wow! These guys
taught the Old Testament, that the Messiah would come and be hated
for no reason! Don’t they recognize their own prophecy?! The only
"law" that Jesus broke was to heal on the Sabbath! What cause is
that for hating Him and wanting Him killed? |
|
26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will
send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which
proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
|
Verse 26 No call
to God goes unanswered! God is your Strength in every situation –
Trust in Him! The Comforter, sent by God, is the only
"Spirit of Truth" and you are Spirit!
|
|
27
And ye also shall bear witness, because ye
have been with me from the beginning.
|
Verse 27 You are always
"beginning" again – brand new every moment! Forgive and you
will "see" things differently!
|
